Hi Everyone, We had a great start to the semester today. We listened to a familiar but favorite story, " If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". We danced and listened to two songs about the story and tested their listening skills by messing up the words. They are all good listeners and caught every mistake. We then made individual bags of trail mix. We counted and then graphed how much of each ingredient was in their bag. The ingredients were chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, raisins, coconut, goldfish and gluten free pretzels. The kids were responsible and careful about allergies but please let me know if there any foods I should avoid. You have great kids and I am looking forward to having fun and learning with them.

The Rainbow Fish

I love that our last class was about sharing!

The  Rainbow Fish took us down to the depths of the ocean.  We thought the story should take place in the Pacific Ocean along Washington's coast.

It was there that a beautiful, young rainbow fish learns the amazing feeling you get when you share.

We also learned about magnets.  We completed a magnet lab by testing all sorts of item to see if they were metallic enough to be attracted to the magnet.

We then made a fun fishing game with a magnet fishing pole.  

Super fun!

It was a delightful semester with your kiddos!!!

I hope they all made it home with their books that highlighted all the books we read and work we did.  Phew, we were busy learning!!!

The Nose Knows

On Thursday, we revisited the book, Ferdinand the Bull.  First, we watched the Disney cartoon of the book.  It is such a fun telling of this classic story.

We then talked about the importance of noses.  We looked at a diagram of our olfactory system.  We talked about how a nose can warn us of dangers such as fires, rotten food, and skunks.

Then we put our noses to work. We tried to identify certain smells by only using our nose.  What a challenge!!!

We filled out a chart when we guessed what we were smelling and then decided whether the smell was pleasing to us or not.  Most of the time it was NOT:).

Next week, we are going to read, The Rainbow Fish.

Ferdinand the Bull

We were certainly happy to see each other on Thursday!  

And we were especially happy to explore our new book, Ferdinand the Bull.

The book took us to the countryside in Spain where a young bull named Ferdinand was born.  He was different than the other bulls in that he enjoyed laying under a cork tree and smelling the flowers, while the other bulls butted heads and chased each other.

When Ferdinand is a two year old bull he is mistakenly chosen to compete in a bullfight!  This proves to be a complete disaster for all involved.  We loved this story!  Ask your kids to retell it to you.  Maybe they will even act it out.

After we learned a few facts about the country of Spain, (instead of a tooth fairy they have a mouse that comes and exchanges your teeth for treasures!) we talked about bullfighting.

But we didn't just talk about it, we went outside and DID it! (To a certain degree.)
